When Hazrat Muhammad would stay in prayer, he would recite Surah Al-Fatihah after Dua Istiftah, and then he would recite a surah of the Qur'an, and after that he would go into ruku and recite the ruku prayer.

Surah Fatiha

Reciting Surah Fatiha is very important in Qayam because Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that whoever does not recite Surah Fatiha has no prayer.

After reciting the Surah Fatiha any Surah of Quran can be recited. You can also recite Surah Ikhlas because Surah Ikhlas has many benifits.

Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Whoever recites Surah Ikhlas three times, it is as if he recited the entire Qur'an.
